Berkey Water filters are great and they work right out of the box, but they may be out of reach if you are on a tight budget.

The lab reports that I have seen document comparable performance with the Berkey systems.

The only downside with this filter is that you need to provide the filter housing yourself. But that shouldn’t be too difficult if you follow the instructions on the website. All you need are 2 food grade plastic buckets.
